The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, 2007 Award Recipients

The mission of The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA), through its relationships within the community, is to encourage and assist the students of the Alexandria City Public Schools by providing them with the necessary resources to pursue a college or post- secondary education.

A message from our 2006-2007 Chairman, Board of Trustees

During the past 21 years, SFA has assisted an ever increasing number of Alexandria's youth in pursuing their educational dreams. Our goal is to increase the number of students we assist, to increase the annual dollar amount of each scholarship, and to increase the number of students we support not just with 1st-year scholarships but also with continued financial support through to college graduation.

Thanks to the strong support shown by every facet of the Alexandria community, our 19th year, ending June 30, 2005, set new records with a nearly 24% increase in giving over the previous year. These gifts enabled SFA to work towards each of our goals as well as build our general endowment fund to support future generations of Alexandria students.

The 2006-2007 school year has been one of success for SFA. In addition to highlighting these many successes, our Annual Report includes a few of the wonderful stories of our graduates-perhaps the most tangible and certainly the most meaningful result of the SFA's work. Many of these talented young people have returned to Alexandria and are now active members of our community, grateful for the assistance their community provided at a pivotal time in their lives.

Your participation in SFA, in whatever form that takes, is vital. There are many ways you can help. In addition to financial support, we need volunteers to participate in the committees of the Board, review our scholarship applications, man the phone bank during our annual Telethon, contribute in kind services, and of course work to broaden the scope of our many fundraising efforts throughout the year. If you would like to become more involved, we welcome your participation.

Serving The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria as its Chairman during its 21st year has been a privilege. I look forward to continuing in this role during our upcoming 22nd year.
