Po Soo-Hoo 2011
Described as “hardworking, compassionate, and an inspiration to others”, Po Soo-Hoo always knew she wanted to be a nurse. While at T.C. Williams, Po volunteered at the Alexandria Red Cross and as a candy striper at Alexandria Hospital. As Po has said, “I love working with people and I want to make a change in the world.” Her choice of career as a maternity nurse provides her with just that opportunity to “spread the knowledge of health to others around me.”
Po grew up in Alexandria and attended James K. Polk Elementary School and Francis C. Hammond Middle School. While at T.C. Williams, Po was a student leader active in several organizations. She was the Captain of the Marching Titans Color Guard and used her leadership skills to organize and assist other members of the team. As co-founder of the Asian Club, Po sought to enlighten and engage students in activities related to the Asian culture. She also tutored students in math and science.
Awarded the Outstanding Scholars Scholarship from the Scholarship Fund, Po expressed her thanks with this quote from E.A. Robinson: “Two kinds of gratitude: the sudden kind we feel for what we take, the larger kind we feel for what we give.” The scholarship helped Po pursue her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Virginia. She went on to receive her M.S. degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University. Po currently works in the maternity ward of Arlington Hospital Center as well as in private maternity practice.
