Henry Wong 2007
At a very young age, Henry Wong knew that he wanted to become a physician. Although his parents never attended college, they instilled in Henry a disciplined work ethic and desire to learn. At T.C. Williams, Henry excelled academically, with a GPA over 4.0, and as a member of the French, Math, and National Honor Societies, and the “It’s Academic” team. He found time to tutor other students in French, played tennis for T.C. Williams and helped out every weekend at his parents’ carryout restaurant, “so my parents wouldn’t have to hire someone else.”
The Scholarship Fund helped Henry with the paperwork to qualify for Pell Grants and awarded him a four-year Capital One Scholarship. Henry attended the University of Virginia where he continued to excel and where he earned a bachelor’s in biology and economics in 2006.
When he received notification of his scholarship in the spring of his senior year in high school, Henry wrote, “With this scholarship, my dream has become a reality and the journey has become less difficult to accomplish. In the future, I will remember the generosity of organizations like yours, and I will likewise give something back to the community. You believe in the talent of the next generation and I again thank you for that. You will not be disappointed.” The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is proud to have played a small role in making his journey a “little less difficult to accomplish.”
