SFA Receives Over $20,000 in Support for Scholarships from Alexandria Drive-In

SCHOLARSHIP FUND OF ALEXANDRIA RECEIVES OVER $20,000 IN SUPPORT FROM ALEXANDRIA DRIVE-IN TO HELP SEND TC TITAN CLASS of 2021 STUDENTS TO COLLEGE

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is thrilled to announce that it has received $20,700 to support scholarships from the 2020 season of The Alexandria Drive-In.

“On behalf our student scholars, we are incredibly grateful to the Drive-In and organizing partners ALX Communityand The Garden for selecting SFA as one of the charities that benefited from this past season,” said Rosie Wiedemer, SFA Relationship Manager.  “We are so thankful to Garden COO Allen Brooks, also a Titan alum and former SFA scholarship recipient, and to Kelly Grant, COO of ALX Community for bringing the SFA in as a participating charity so that together we can send more Alexandria students with financial need to college,” Wiedemer added.

The SFA is also grateful to ALL of the local residents and families who came out to enjoy the Drive-in and support scholarships at the same time. We would like to thank ALL of the volunteers, including many current TC Titans, who supported this fun, retro effort. The funds we received will provide college scholarships for Class of 2021 graduates from T.C. Williams High School, students we like to call GENERATION RESILIENT.

Its impact will have a ripple effect on our community for years to come; this check of over $20,000 is just the start. We are proud to help so many young students receive college scholarships and be able to reach their full potential,” said Kelly Grant, Partner at Alx Community and Founder of the Alexandria Drive-In. “With Alx Community opening its third location, we are excited that Athena Rapid Response is going to carry the torch and continue the Alexandria Drive In. Stay tuned for many new community-based initiatives that ALX will pioneer in 2021.”

SFA is thrilled to have been selected as a charity that will benefit from the Spring 2021 season of the Alexandria Drive-In.  The kick-off of the spring season that starts this weekend, March 5-7.  CLICK here to review the schedule and purchase Drive-In tickets.On March 27 The Alexandria Drive-In will screening “Remember the Titans.”  All Titan, Titan Alumni and members of the Titan family are encouraged to come out for this movie that holds a very special place in our hearts.

The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria was founded in 1986 to raise funds to support college advising and scholarships for students with financial need in the Alexandria City Public Schools. Over the past 35 years, the Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $16.5 million in scholarships and helped send 5,000 local students to college. The vast majority of SFA scholarships are awarded to students of color; more than half of all recipients are the first generation in their family to attend college. Each year the Scholarship Fund awards more than $1 million in scholarships and direct service college advising and support to provide greater college access and opportunity for all students in Alexandria.  SFA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
