Launched on January 9, 2023, thirteen adventurous Alexandria City High School juniors came together to raise $12,000 for a four-year scholarship within a seven-week timeline under the new club title Titans 4 Scholars. The students who were selected by application in September, met twice a month through December to discuss their strategy to raise the funds for the Titans 4 Scholars Scholarship. During the campaign itself, they met weekly to identify any challenges and track progress, incorporating communication, management, and presentation skills to raise funds and awareness for the SFA’s mission of making college dreams a reality.
The SFA office worked with the students brainstorming ideas, providing templates for email outreach, setting up a campaign page, and assisting with peer-to-peer fundraising. The students held several events in addition to individually soliciting funds. These fundraisers included a student art show—online and in person at Cameron Cafe—three after-school bake sales, an ice skating event at Pentagon Row, and a restaurant night at Los Tios in Del Ray. The students were sensitive to making sure that opportunities were spread throughout the Alexandria City geographic reach, and beyond. They definitely went out of their comfort zone!
This is the inaugural year for Titans 4 Scholars, and these remarkable young people raised over $10,000, officially ending on March 3, 2023! The donations continue to grow today. The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria is so pleased that they were able to join us at the 2023 Gala to celebrate their accomplishment as well as award the T4S Scholarship to the first recipient. They serve as a great example to us all.
