Jack Kent Cooke Foundation: A Grant Well Spent

Support from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation (30k+) has bolstered the work of the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, enabling practical assistance for Alexandria City High School students as they contemplate next steps on their educational journey.

The awarded JKCF Good Neighbor Grant’s purpose was “To support the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria (SFA) in establishing a program to provide supportive services to 40 high-need, high-achieving students at risk of college under-matching.” Despite the challenges faced by the Alexandria City High School and its students in the post-Covid environment, the SFA was able to meet our goals for the class of 2023.

With this grant support coupled with other resources, the SFA staff was able to spend even more time identifying and reaching out to high achieving students who had not yet completed a FAFSA. (Completing a FAFSA is a key indicator of college matriculation.) The SFA was able to provide programming and counseling specifically addressing paths to postsecondary educational opportunities for low-income students, those who would be the first in their families to attend college, and to students of color.

Our gratitude to the JKC Foundation in contributing to the education of so many in our community.
